TC Updates/Announcements- June 2016

Hey friends,
Life is good here at Tamarindo Church.  There  have been several exciting things that have happened over the past couple of months, so I’ll just jump right in with the latest.

MISSION TRIP
Back in April, a few of us from Tamarindo Church were asked to lead a group of 10 students from  Costa Rica International Academy on a service trip to Nicaragua.  We brought the group to the same neighborhood that we usually serve in, Cristo Rey Tipitapa.  While there, we were able to build 3 homes, distribute clothes and food, and serve at the local feeding center.  One of the great “opportunities” of this trip was that the majority of kids going on the trip were either non-Christian or unchurched.  But they all knew this was a “church” trip, and so we were able to lead the group in scripture reflection, worship songs, and prayer.  And while serving alongside the churches in Cristo Rey, it was great to see the students being exposed not only to the realities of impoverished existence, but also to the culture of Christian faith, compassion, and service.  I truly believe that seeds were sown in their heart and that they will never forget.  I am also hopeful that those seeds will one day come to bear fruit in their lives in the form of faith in Christ.  Thank you to Mike Krepin and Megan Ward for serving as leaders on the Trip.  Also… Thank you Megan Ward for your faithfulness in serving our youth during your two years with Tamarindo Church.  Blessings to you and Scott in your marriage and life together!

RIO BRAZIL- CHURCH PLANT ASSESSMENT
As many of you know, our church is part of a fellowship of churches known as the International Baptist Convention (IBC).  Part of Tamarindo Church’s participation in the IBC is that we are part of a LEAD Team that  has a vision for seeing English speaking Churches planted in expat communities throughout Central and South America.  This year, as part of that effort, our team met in Rio, Brazil to perform a feasibility study for a church plant in Rio.  As a result of our study we came to the conclusion that Rio definitely has a substantial unreached, English speaking population, and the presence of an English Speaking church could have significant impact there.  We are excited to see what God might have in store for reaching and ministering to internationals Rio in the coming years.

EXCITING NEWS
Some of you may have noticed in our “prayer request” section of our update letters that we have been asking for prayer regarding our desire to purchase a property for our church.  Well… over the past seven months, we have been doing some behind the scenes fundraising, and we have raised the majority of the finances that we will need to purchase a lot AND build a church.  We have been blown away by the response and we are thankful to God and to donors who have been so generous toward this effort so far! There are more details to this news, but what I’d like to ask all of you for most at this point is prayer.  We currently have an offer on a property that we would like to purchase, but the offer is contingent because there is currently a lean on the property that needs to be resolved.  The owners are working to clear up the matter, and they believe it will be resolved by October of this year.  As we “wait and see” how thing unfold, we are also exploring other options for a church lot/location.  Please join us in prayer.  We pray that either the lot would be freed from the lien, or that while we are waiting… God would show us a different property where he might have us located.  And if you have any questions about how you might participate in seeing this vision come to happen, please feel free to contact me via email.

WOMEN’S RETREAT

Thank you to those of you were praying for the Women’s Retreat this weekend.  Stacey just got back, and shared some encouraging stories of how God moved in the hearts of the ladies during their time there.  My reaction was, “wow… that’s powerful stuff”.  We thank God for allowing his Spirit to move among the women at the retreat… and we are thankful for their safe return home.
And lastly, thank you to all of you who pray, and give and serve in many different ways to support the life and ministry of Tamarindo Church.  We couldn’t do this without you.  Hope to see you next Sunday!
Peace,
Lyle & Stacey
