Hey Friends,

June is finally here, it’s that time of year when many of us here at TC are excited to take time to visit with family and friends “back home”.  If you are traveling this summer… we will miss you while you’re gone.  And we pray safe travels until you return and that you have quality time with your families.

Summer is an interesting time of year for Tamarindo Church in that… while we may have many folks out of town traveling in the summers… we also  find that our seats become filled with guests from out of town who are visiting Tamarindo on their vacations.  How awesome is that?…. that people take time on their vacations to come and worship with us?   This brings something to mind that I should actually share with you more often… and that is… one of the things I regularly hear from our guests who visit Tamarindo Church is that… they really appreciate the hospitality you show them when they are visiting our church.  People notice and appreciate how welcoming you all are on Sunday mornings.  Whether greeting them at the door, or a brief conversation before service starts, or a ride home after church, or even an invitation to lunch… our guests and visitors are thankful for your exceptional hospitality on Sunday mornings, and I think this is important for you all to know.  Thank you for being a church that makes our guests feel welcome…  and be sure to keep sharing that love with those who will be visiting us in the coming months!

FAREWELL TO THE MCDERMOTTSPart of being in a transient expat community is that we see many people come and go over the years.  This past month, we bid a farewell to the McDermott

family. Kevin, Leslie and their kids have been a regular part of the life and ministry of Tamarindo Church, and they will surely be missed.  During their time here, Kevin and Leslie poured out their lives in service in Nicaragua, at the local food bank, at their kids’ schools,  and most recently…  in helping Nicaraguan families who were seeking asylum to transition to life in Costa Rica .  Thank you McDermotts, for simply living your faith, and being an example to all of us of “faith in action”.  Blessings to you guys in your new season of life  and ministry in Florida.

Faith In Action: Servant’s Spotlight

If it’s Wednesday at 12:30, you’ll find talking, laughing, sharing, and of course yummy sweets, as the ladies gather at TC for their weekly bible study.  And leading that study, with her great insight, laughter, and gift for making God’s Word understandable, you will find Mindy Stoms!

This journey started when Mindy led the teaching at the Women’s Retreat last November.  It was clear that teaching was her gift, and we all grew together in faith as we went through parts of the Bible to learn about God’s character. This is when Stacey invited Mindy to serve as leader of Tamarindo Church’s weekly women’s bible study.  Mindy has served in this role  since February.

Mindy’s desire is to teach the big picture of the bible story, about who God is, and what His Word means to us.  And she does a great job making the Bible story easy to understand.  As Mindy says, “I’ve been amazed at how well it’s been received.  The ladies have enjoyed it, and they are connected to the material, and to each other….  We have such a variety of ladies all coming together but everyone is growing in their own way.  I see women ‘get it’ and learn who God is, and how they each fit into this story.  That is a total joy and blessing to me!”

Leading this group has been a great challenge for Mindy as well… but in a good way.  “It challenges me to study deeper so I can answer questions.  Also I never know the make up of the group week to week, but that’s also fun.  It keeps it fresh and new each week.”

When I asked Mindy how serving has affected her own walk with the Lord, she told me  “This has been such a gift to me!  I get so much more out of it than I feel that I give.  It’s a total joy and blessing to see women grow in knowing who God is, and to get to connect with so many great ladies!”

Mindy shares these thoughts for anyone who is considering serving in a volunteer role at Tamarindo Church…. “Do it, especially if you are serving doing something you are passionate about.  Serving is how you grow in your faith.  If you’re new, it’s the way to plug in to the community, and to jumpstart your faith.”

If you are interested in serving opportunities anywhere at Tamarindo Church, please contact Jean Mixon on WhatsApp 8938-0845 or email jeanmixon@outlook.com.

NICARAGUA MISSION TRIP- July 22-26

On July 22nd, Tamarindo Church will be headed up to Cristo Rey in Nicaragua for our second trip this year. We will be partnering with the ministry of Fundacristo, a school in the barrio of Cristo Rey.  During our time there we will assisting Fundacristo with ongoing projects at the school.

Here are some interesting facts on education in Nicaragua from Fundacristo’s website:
While many children in the neighborhood don’t make it past a 6th grade education, FundaCristo has a vision for seeing that these children have the opportunity to one day graduate from high school.  Here are some statistics that I gathered from their website on elementary education in Nicaragua…

Only 72%of children finished primary school in 2009, the latest year for which data is available. This low figure hides bigger inequalities as only 65% of children from the poorest 20% of families completed primary school compared to 98% from the richest homes.
Secondary school figures are unsurprisingly much worse:46% finished the first tier (9th grade/year 10), and only 19% completed 11th grade (year 12). In the poorest families, only 6% of children finished secondary school.

GET INVOLVED!

3.  Give Financially- Fundacristo is currently completing a project which will provide more classroom space and a cafeteria/common area for the students.  , They are just $13,000 short of their goal for completing the project.  Click the following links to view progress on the project… Video 1Video 2Video 3
