TC Update/Announcements- August 2019

Hey Friends,

So I’m guessing some of you noticed that we missed last month’s monthly update.  That’s because my family and I took time away in June-July to visit with family back home in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia.  We are thankful to have had that time to reconnect with our family and friends back in the States.  We are also grateful to our team back in Tamarindo Church who kept ministry going as usual with Sunday services and our Men’s and Women’s bible Studies.  And we’d like to say special thanks to Juan and Justin for filling in on preaching during the Sunday’s that we were gone.  Thank you!

FAREWELL TO THE BONFLIGLIOS

In early July, our church family was able to say farewell and pray for the Bonfiglio family as they made a move back to the States to relocate to Florida.   Mark, Kat & Nikki were a big part of the community and church family here, and we are grateful for the many ways they loved and served folks in the church and community.   Blessing to you guys as you transition back to the States.  We pray God’s guidance for you as you seek a church family to connect with there.  They will be blessed to have your family with them!

NICARAGUA MISSION TRIP- FUNDACRISTO

Last week six folks from Tamarindo Church met up with nine folks from Texas to serve in Cristo Rey, Nicaragua.  We spent the week serving kids at Fundacristo School who we have been helping for the past couple years.  Fundacristo has a great vision for giving kids care and education from primary school to graduation from high school… an accomplishment that most children in that neighborhood could never afford.  It is amazing to see what God is doing through their ministry and we are glad to be a part of their efforts.  During our trip our team hung drywall, painted a classroom, cut hair, gave foot massages to teachers (bonus!),  took students on a field trip to Granada, and donated finances for new books and school supplies.  In addition, many who have gone on our past trips to help Fundacristo have also sponsored children… and several of us had the opportunity to visit with our sponsored child (children).  If you are interested in sponsoring a child, you can do so at the fundacristo website.  And if you’d like to join us on our next trip in January 2020, just shoot an email to pastor Lyle to let him know (lyletamarindo@gmail.com), and we’ll reserve a spot for you.

TC YOUTH CAMP- CAMP LA CUMBRE

Earlier this month several youth from Tamarindo Church met up with kids from all over Costa Rica for a youth camp at Camp La Cumbre.  This camp is put on each year by a group from Texas that collaborates with International Baptist Church (IBC) in San Jose, Costa Rica, and IBC has been gracious enough to invite our youth to attend.  The youth had a great time enjoying the beauty of the mountains… and the cold!  It gets chilly up there.  And of course… there were meaningful conversations that took place with God and each other, and we are grateful for the Holy Spirit’s work in their hearts.  Thank you Kristi for organizing the group from our area and thank you Justin for leading and loving our youth! Thank you IBC for the invitation!  Thank you Texas Team for hosting!  We look forward to next year!

Faith In Action: Servant’s Spotlight

It would be hard to come to Tamarindo Church and NOT see Jim Titkemeyer serving somewhere!!!  He will always be the guy sporting the Tamarindo Church t-shirt, and a friendly smile!

It’s a challenge to list all the areas where Jim serves… manning the t-shirt table, taking up the offering, participating in men’s group, editing the newsletter, working at special events, and giving away delicious mangoes and grapefruits that he and his wife Suzanne grow in their yard!

Jim started serving about a year ago when TC needed someone to work the t-shirt table, where we raise money for missions.  From that point, he has stepped in to help wherever he’s needed.  Jim shares that, “it really brings joy to me.  I love the unpredictability of it, and I love meeting visitors and talking with people.”  He notes that, “sometimes it’s hard when you make good friends and they move on, but it makes me grateful for the people who live here year round and the team of people I serve with.  People here are great, they step in to help fold t-shirts (which I’m not good at!) and I’ve really felt like part of the community.”

I asked Jim what he would tell others who aren’t serving yet, but want to get more connected.  “Just do it,” he said.  “I believe in what we do, and I know that we help people in a very real way.  Do what you’re passionate about!  Each person has their own gift, and they should just try it out and see what’s a good fit.  The more involved you get, the greater the blessing.”

Jim & Suzanne have lived in nearby Santa Rosa for about 2 years. They generously share the delicious mangoes and grapefruits that grow in their yard not only with their TC family, but they also donate them to the local food bank.

Thank you Jim for your faithfulness in serving each week at Tamarindo Church!

If you would like to explore how your gifts, talents, and passions can be used to serve others, please contact Jean Mixon jeanmixon@outlook.com or WhatsApp 8938-0845.
