TC Update/Announcements- Feb 2021

Hey TC Family,

It has been great being able to gather again in person for Sunday services over these past several weeks.  And for those who are not able to be with us in person, we are glad

to have you joining us online.  As I make my transition out as pastor at Tamarindo Church, I can’t tell you how thankful I am to see so many people stepping up in new ways to serve and to continue moving the ministry of Tamarindo Church forward.  You are the church… and it’s awesome to see the way God is stirring a new life in Tamarindo Church as we make this transition.  As we move forward in these coming months, there is a lot happening at TC, so please be sure to check out our updates and announcements below.

TAMARINDO CHURCH BOARD UPDATE
We want to announce that the TC Board recently added a new board member… Andy Ahrens.  Andy is married to Lydia Ahrens, and they have three children (Colson,

Liam, & Adalyn.  For those of you who may not know Andy, he and his wife Lydia were part of the TC Board and the Pastor Advisory Group when Tamarindo Church was planted back in 2013.  They served Tamarindo Church in a variety of ways during our first 3 years of ministry in Tamarindo, they then moved back to the US.  Over the past year, Andy and family have moved here permanently, and we have invited Andy to join our leadership again.  Andy’s ministry background includes attending seminary at Corban University in Oregon, serving as preaching pastor at a church for 2 years in the absence of a pastor, leading Awanas/Kid’s Club during his earlier time at TC, and preaching at TC on occasion.  Welcome back to CR Ahren’s family! And thank you Andy for serving our church family as part of the TC Board.

Over the past several weeks the leadership of Tamarindo Church has been meeting, praying, and planning our upcoming transition.  Among the many topics being considered… one of our top priorities has been considering the possibility of having an interim pastor serve our congregation for several months by walking alongside the church and its leadership through the transition. We are currently in conversation with a pastor and his wife who have experience in “coaching” churches and their leadership in times of pastoral transition, and we will be sure to keep you posted on these plans as they unfold.  Please pray wisdom and discernment from the Holy Spirit as we seek God’s direction in this decision.

FAREWELL TO WATSONS- Sunday, Feb 28

Pastor Lyle will be preaching his final sermon (for now) at Tamarindo Church on February 28th, and we’d like to invite everyone to stick around after service for lunch and a time of fellowship.  We will be providing roasted chicken, and we ask that everyone please  bring a side dish to share for our meal together with the Watsons. Let’s eat together, laugh together, and just be together as we thank the Watson’s and send them off with our love.

TC FAMILY MEETING- Sunday, March 7th- You’re Invited!
Hello Everyone, My name is Christa Niven and I am a member of the Tamarindo Church

board of directors. Like so many of you, we have been here through COVID and are so glad to be back at church after what feels to me like a long dark winter- that was actually just a normal rainy summer. We have missed being here and the home base that TC has been for our family since 2016 when we met this  body of Christ on vacation and fell in love. It was home for us then and it is still our home nearly 4 years later. We love this place.

As we started talking together as a board about things like transition teams and interim pastors, our hearts keep coming back to this room and to all of you and realizing how important your input is to this process. We are just wanting so much for us to all be together with one mind and one spirit during this process.

We were thinking that it is important for us to create opportunities for us to sit together- over meals and coffees- like families do- and to dream together about this next season in the life of our church. We want to be sure that while we have been away from one another for these COVID months, and while things will be different once we send the Watson’s off, this is still our home and it is always the place we can not only know we belong, but the launching place for the love and care we share with one another and our neighbors, and the community around us.

We have begun talking about what those opportunities to come together might look like.  With this in mind, we are holding an open conversation after church on Sunday, March 7. The Watson’s won’t be with us for that conversation as it important for us to have the space to talk about what the future will look like after they leave CR. We will have drinks and salads for anyone who wants to stay and visit from 11:45-1:00.

As a board, we are honored to serve you all during this time and welcome not just your feedback, but your hopes, dreams and, of course, prayers for our future together.

VALERIE ESCHUK- LAS PLAYAS FOOD BANK
We wanted to follow up on last month’s newsletter where we were presenting a need of our dear friend Valerie at Las Playas Food Bank.  Many of you know Ms. Val from serving alongside her in the past.  Las Playas Food Bank is an awesome ministry that is distributing food monthly to over 400 individuals and families in need in our community and this is the ministry Ms Val founded and where she faithfully serves .  Well, Val

contacted me recently with news that she has been suffering pain in her hip, and her doctor has informed her that she will be needing to have hip surgery.  The cost of the surgery and rehab is beyond her ability to pay, so I told her that we’d like to help spread the word about her financial need for the surgery.  She told me this past week that she now has 60% of the $1600 she will need for the surgery and recover. If you would like to help Valerie with the cost of Va’s surgery, feel free to reach out to her directly at valeriesfoods@gmail.com, or you can also make contributions through Tamarindo Church by going to our TC Giving Page, make a contribution, then email me to let me know know that you’d like your donation to go toward helping Ms. Val.  Thank you for any help you can offer to Ms. Val!

Thank you all again for the many ways you give, serve, and participate in the life and ministry of Tamarindo Church.  We will miss you all deeply, and we pray God’s blessing over you as you continue to be salt and light in the community of Tamarindo.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:13-16

Peace,
Lyle & Stacey
