TC Updates/Announcements- Feb 2020

Hey Friends,

January was an exciting month at Tamarindo Church.  In addition to welcoming and

catching up with many of our seasonal visitors we also hosted a successful Bingo Night fundraiser and had a great mission trip up to Nicaragua.  And in mid-January, we were sad to say farewell and pray blessings over Justin Novgrod and family as they returned to the U.S.  We will deeply miss having the Novgrods as part of our church family.

To hear more about what’s been going on and what’s coming up at Tamarindo Church this month… please read below.

NICARAGUA MISSION TRIP

During the last week of January Tamarindo Church led a team on a mission trip to Tipitapa, Nicaragua.  While there we focused primarily on maintenance and construction projects at Fundacristo’s School in Barrio Cristo Rey.  In addition to working on projects at the school….

  • One member our team gave free haircuts to students.
  • Two other members of our team played soccer in the streets with kids.
  • We bought and helped serve food at a local feeding center at a church.
  • We donated funds for the purchase of text books and school supplies.
  • We took 25 students on a full-day field trip.
  • And we had two homes built for families in need in the community.

Throughout our time together we sensed God’s presence and blessing over our interaction with and service to the community up there. And during our nightly meetings together… the Holy Spirit worked in our hearts as we reflected on scriptures and processed each day’s events.

Thank you all for your prayers over our team and and for your prayers over the community of Cristo Rey.  And thank you to all who gave of their time and resources to help us raise the funds needed to accomplish all that was done .

BINGO FUNDRAISEREarlier in January, Tamarindo Church hosted a community Bingo Night at the Surf Club Bar & Grill in Playa Langosta.  It was a super fun night with folks from church and from the community coming out to support our efforts for the Nicaragua Mission Trip.  Lots of fun prizes were won, we had some great fellowship, and we were able to raise and additional $1247 to go toward our projects on the mission trip.  A special thanks goes out to all of the local business who donated for the event.  Thanks to Gary, Sabra, Jim and Suzanne for helping to organize the event.  And thanks to Matty at The Surf Club for allowing us to host the event at your place.

PASTOR’S PERSECTIVEAs I reflect over the past month… what stands out most in my mind is the blessing it has been to do our annual mission trips up to Nicaragua every year.  From the first year that we planted we have been taking these trips, and God has always blessed our efforts and our experiences in Nicaragua.  Over the past seven years we’ve had the privilege of leading about 14 trips up to Nicaragua… most of them being with groups from our church.  But we’ve also had the opportunity to lead trips with local high school students and to partner with a couple of groups from the US as well.  In that time we have built 35 houses, distributed 2500 bags of food, hosted 4 VBS events, donated food and participated in feeding centers, and delivered over 100 suitcases filled with shoes, clothes, toys, etc.  Because of your generosity with time and resources.. over the past seven years we have been able to have this kind of impact in Nicaragua.  Thank you!

But I should mention here that… it’s not just the difference that we have made in Cristo Rey, Nicaragua that makes these mission trips so meaningful.  During these trips, God is profoundly impacting the lives of those who go and serve in Nicaragua.  When we come back from these trips… I can’t help but notice how people’s lives have changed as a result of stepping out of their comfort zones and serving in ways that they never have before.  After spending five days of serving, worshipping, praying, processing, and studying God’s word together… I see people who have grown in deeper fellowship with their brothers and sisters Christ.  And upon our return, I see people who have grown in their devotion to God and in their willingness to demonstrate compassion, generosity, and service to those in need.  I am a huge fan of these mission trips… and I hope I’m not being presumptuous in saying that… I think Jesus is too.

Thank you Holy Spirit, for showing up big on our mission trips!  And thank you to all of YOU… for the variety of ways you have participated in our efforts to make a difference in Nicaragua… and for the many other ways that you contribute to the life and ministry of Tamarindo Church.

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
~1 Timothy 6:17-19
